It’s Monday friends which means another blog post. I know right now we haven’t nailed down a schedule for when blog posts will be coming out, but I promise I am working on that. My goal is to put one out every other Monday. So this one would come out today October the 9th and then hopefully the next one will come out October 23rd.
So today’s blog post as you can probably guess is about when we found out if our sweet baby was going to be a boy or a girl. In today’s blog you will hear about our predictions, our family’s predictions, how we found out, how far along I was, and of course whether baby T is going to be a boy or a girl followed by some super cute photos. So let’s get started on this very exciting step in the process.
First thing is what was everyone’s predictions. To talk about this I must inform you how crazy my family is about old wives tales. They have one for everything. The other thing is that for the most part, they are always right. It can be super frustrating. Love you mom! So immediately upon hearing that the baby’s heart beat was 170bpm at our first ultrasound, my side of the family insisted that it would be a girl. To be honest, I didn’t want a girl. I really really wanted a boy. So while I knew my mom and family were probably right, I just kept pushing that it might be a boy. Phillip was also hoping for a boy. His side of the family was pretty indifferent to weather it was a boy or a girl and didn’t have many guesses on it. I liked how open they were to either side. Don’t get me wrong though, none of us cared what gender Baby T was. We just wanted a happy and healthy baby. That doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to guess and put wishes out there.
So as most of you probably know and for those who don’t, your OB usually won’t do another ultrasound after your initial one around 8 weeks until you are 20 weeks. At the 20 week ultrasound is when most will find out the gender. Me being the very impatient person I am and having the constant need to know things as soon as possible, this wasn’t going to work for me. So we looked up a place that a friend recommended called Stork Vision here in Nashville. There they offer several items like gender scans, 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasounds, and more. This place is separate from your normal Doctor and insurance does not cover it. So this is a place where you would pay out of pocket to have any of their services done.
Around 16 weeks your baby’s gender is pretty much formed. So we set up an appointment at 16 weeks and 5 days on July 15, 2017. We get there and fill out our forms and then are finally taken back to the ultrasound room. Once on the table we had normal conversation with the doctor as she looked around for Baby T. Finally we found the baby who was of course very low at this point (as we would come to learn as the pregnancy went along, the baby likes to be very low. There aren’t many times where Baby T moves up into my stomach.) Once she found the baby, Baby T had their legs crossed and was laying in a ball. My heart dropped at first because I thought, that’s my luck. This kid isn’t going to show us the goods. The doctor laughed and asked if she could push on my lower stomach. After what felt like a million years Baby T finally moved and stretched out those legs which allowed us to see the gender. Baby T was a girl!!! We were so excited. The fact that I wanted a boy so bad just faded away instantly and I immediately couldn’t imagine this baby girl being anything but that. We already had a name picked out so we started calling her by it, Penelope Rose Townsend. Phillip and I were over the moon! Now all we had to do was tell my mom and family that they were right. We got to spend some more time with her as the doctor let us see her for a bit longer and even showed us a 3D image of her. She was absolutely beautiful and already striking a pose for us. It was pretty neat to see her moving because at this point I couldn’t feel her yet. We spent the rest of the appointment just soaking up all the time we had watching her. The moments when you get to actually see your baby is just so precious during the pregnancy. I especially know that they are for Phillip who doesn’t get to actually feel her every day.
We left the appointment just overjoyed with excitement that we would be bringing a baby girl into this world. Once in the car Phillip did have to throw one of his famous jokes in there and said “Oh crap! This means we have to pay for a wedding!” I can always count on him to make every moment a memorial one.
Baby Dust To All,
Cynthia

Are you guys waiting until birth to find out? That’s amazing if you are! I’m not sure I have the patience to do that, but I think it’s a wonderful thing and what a great surprise.
